Recette du Yaourt à la Vanille (Vanilla Yogurt Recipe)

Today we are sharing an Art of the Home favorite yogurt recipe: recette du yaourt à la vanille (vanilla yogurt recipe).  We have been blessed with the many yogurt varieties offered in French grocery store since we arrived, loving it!  And as we discussed in the article “Top 5 Reasons to Eat Yogurt“, yogurt is a big part of the French diet so we decided to make our popular vanilla yogurt recipe on this side of the Atlantic — our vanilla yogurt recipe was a big hit!  We did take our vanilla yogurt recipe with us but of course, no room for a yogurt maker!  Pas de soucis (no problem!) — our French kitchen is already equipped with an old yaourtière SEB (in the US we use our Euro Cuisine yogurt maker to make this vanilla yogurt recipe).  Our vanilla yogurt recipe uses natural ingredients and is very healthy.  So check our Art of the Home vanilla yogurt recipe below for delicious a dessert or snack.  Enjoy and bon appétit!

by Art of the Home

Ingredients (yield 7 yogurt jars)

  • 1 jar of live cultured yogurt
  • 40 oz of milk
  • 3-6 TBSP of sugar (according to taste but can even be done without any sugar)
  • 2 vanilla beans

Directions

  1. Pour milk in a pot.  Cut vanilla beans lenghwise and extract seeds.  Drop in seeds and vanilla pods in the milk.  Bring to a gentle boil, mixing from time to time.
  2. Mix sugar and yogurt.
  3. Let the milk cool off to a warm temperature (it speeds up the process to put the pot in cold water).  Pass milk through a sieve or strainer.
  4. Mix in yogurt-sugar mixture with milk and fill up yogurt jars.
  5. Place in a yogurt maker according to manufacturer directions.  Using our Euro Cuisine yogurt maker, we set the timer on 10 hours for a firmer yogurt.

    Hi, Ladies:

Your recipe for homemade vanilla yogurt is fantastic! I started to make my own about 3 weeks ago and not only am I eating it everyday for breakfast, but for dessert in the evening, too. Since I don’t care for plain or too tangy yogurt, I like the little bit of sugar added, but at least I am controlling the amount. It also makes me feel good not to throw away all those plastic yogurt tubs in the trash. Reusing my little glass canning jars makes the perfect individual serving size and much more fancier.

Thank you for your web-site. I am enjoying it very much.

Thank you so much for your kind words Deborah, we appreciate it. Homemade yogurt is one of the best treat and it is so good for you, especially for women (and children). We love the glass jars too, we even have a 2nd set so we can rotate them. We’ve had those for years and they still look brand new, great quality (but the caps don’t go on the dishwasher, that would be nice). In case you want to share to joy with a loved one this holiday season (a yogurt maker with a small bunch of vanilla beans tied with a rustic twine could make a thoughtful gift – just a thought), we did want to point out that the yogurt maker is 20% OFF at the boutique so feel free to check it out if it is on anybody’s wish list. Thanks again for your comment. Lovely day to you Deborah!
