Dior’s new campaign is classy and sensual — kind of Chanel meeting Bardot. It was filmed by Sofia Coppola in Paris and the song is “Je t’aime moi non plus” written by Serge Gainsbourg for Brigitte Bardot. I’m not sure if it was intended or not but I am delighted that Dior selected this song for their 2011 campaign – the year France remembers the 20th anniversary of Serge Gainsbourg’s passing (March 2nd, 1991). He revered women — so what a nice tribute to chose this special song. He would have certainly approved that and surely flirted with Natalie Portman on set!
Coppola also directed another Dior campaign a few years ago. In fact, this campaign is still showing on French TV. Great campaign, the ad is full of freshness and happiness, but you’ll see the flair was much different — it’s more about independence and fun than seduction and love. This video has lovely footage of Paris (the Eiffel Tower, macarons & French pastries, the Seine, etc.). The clothes, the scenery and Brigitte Bardot singing “Moi, je joue” (Me, I play) gives this campaign a charming retro feel you may enjoy…
We took a vote here at Art of the Home and we are split between #1 (Natalie Portman) and #2 (Paris). Which one do you prefer — 1 or 2?
Ms Portman has stated she is not gong to stay with Dior since she is Jewish and the Dior designer John Gallianos made those horrid anti semetic statements, which he will not stand trial for. I think she is a beautiful young woman and a fresh face for the company.
Should have read ‘which he will NOW stand trial for’.
Thankfully, this designer has been fired by Dior, rightfully so. It was hard to watch somebody make such outrageous statements. It’s still unclear to me whether Natalie Portman will cut of ties with Dior or now that Gallianos is gone, it’s conceivable that she could stay on. We’ll see. Thank you for your comment.
Pour moi c’est 2, elle représente tellement de choses en quelques secondes.
Bienvenue Frederique et merci pour votre vote. Pour l’instant, #2 est en tête.
