February 5th, 1878 – André Citroën is Born

On February 5th, 1878, French  Polytechnique engineer André Citroën is born in Paris. In 1919, he created the Citroën empire – the first mass-production car company of its kind outside the United States.

This European Henry Ford, as he was sometimes referred to, was also quite to marketing visionary. He used the Eiffel tower to promote his Citroën brand name (that was way before flashing billboards).

Favorite Citroën Cars

Some of our favorite Citroën cars are the 2CV (James Bond drove a yellow one in “For Your Eyes Only” – we prefer the vintage blue ones though) and the Citroën DS (if you follow the series The Mentalist – Patrick Jane is driving one).
